Enjoying a safer workplace is for the good of everyone. A poor safety record of a workplace imposes a huge cost on society

Wolrdwide it has been reckoned that the costs of unsatisfactory safety at work adds to an estimated 1.25 thousand million US dollars each year. And global, deaths linked to work places amounts to around two million people year in, year out.

It’s been established within the US, how one dollar put into safety initiatives returns three as a the benefits are accrued.

There’s a method to improving on safety at work; initially it’s to do a survey to understand the opportunities, to fix those problems and then to train and inform of, the remaining risks . Safety signs slip into this latter task as the ever vigilant reminders of appropriate work practices. By themselves they don’t make a safer place to work – they just support all the other actions

With the many types of safety signs for simplicity they have been organized into groups around their severity . We’ve all seen the Danger signs that cover the really serious life threatening risks, then there are Caution signs, followed by the Stop and finally Notice signs that are of informational content.

As our desire is to have the biggest benefit on safety, we’ll just review the Danger and Caution signs here.

A caution sign’s function is to inform of conditions not life threatening, but which, could be a risk to human health and/or the environment. Caution safety signs have a yellow background with a black print for contrast and improved visibility.

A caution safety sign’s safety message needs to work because no one wants injuries at work.

Many work situations demand recognition of the extreme risks to human life and/or the environment; this is pin pointed with a danger safety sign . These signs are limited to the most extreme hot spots and are often in manufacturing – industrial situations, where chemicals, heavy machinery and similar industrial hazards abound.

Safety signs do reduce workplace incidents in conjunction with an overall safety program – they are a good investment.
